The Farm participated in, “America 250: Celebrating Our Story”, a community event in partnership with the Greater Literacy Foundation, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Waxahachie Railyard Park. This free, family-friendly event celebrated America’s 250th anniversary as well as the anniversary of Waxahachie’s founding in August 1850. The event featured booths and storytelling stations highlighting Waxahachie’s agricultural heritage, local heroes, and the history of the city’s historic downtown. Farm Treasurer John Wedel, with the assistance of Board Member Karen Carreon, created two booklets for the event that were made available to attendees—one (“Welcome to the Farm”) telling the history of the Farm from the point of view of a young boy who actually lived on it 100 years ago and another (“The Small Family Cotton Farm: The Foundation of Historic Waxahachie”) that featured the importance of cotton farming and the associated cotton industry in the growth of Waxahachie and Ellis County. Also available at the Farm’s booth were coloring sheets picturing Farm headquarters, stickers illustrating the animals at the Farm, and flyers for Farm Heritage Day. All in all, it was a fun and rewarding community event.
