Family Room

The family room is where the family would likely gather in the evening, with Mr. McKinney working on his farm records, his daughters sewing or doing handwork, and the kids completing their schoolwork or playing card or board games.

The curio case, previously owned by Lu Ann Aday’s paternal grandmother, contains many treasured family artifacts, including a portrait of her paternal great grandmother who died in childbirth, her paternal and maternal grandmothers’ childhood dolls, and hot chocolate and tea sets in which her maternal grandmother served after-school treats to Lu Ann’s mother and aunts and uncle when they were children.

The antique writing desk has been actively used by Lu Ann’s maternal aunt, mother, and Lu Ann herself.

The rocker, which has a sewing drawer with a place for rolls of thread and other sewing supplies, was used by her maternal grandmother, a talented seamstress.
