Parlor

This room is where the family would most likely receive visitors.

The hickory couch, chairs, and tables in the parlor were manufactured by the Old Hickory Furniture Company, Martinsville, Indiana, which began in the early 1880s, and are family heirlooms.  Hickory saplings were soaked in boiling water and bent to make hoops.

The Architectural Plan for the “rehabilitation” of the McKinney-Aday Farmhouse, prepared by Historical Preservationist Architect Anthony Mottla in December 2010, served as the basis for the restoration of the farmhouse over a seventh-month period March thru September 2011.

Notice the board with “August 31, 1913” written on it in carpenter’s pencil indicating the completion of the house as well as the name of the builder, “Jack Harris”, “Waxahachie, Texas”.  The board was found near a chimney on the roof of the house during the restoration in 2011.
